Edifício Alexandre Mackenzie (in english Alexandre Mackenzie Building) it was opened in 1929, it is a rare construction of American beaux-art architecture in Brazil. Monumentality, strong neo-classic inspiration, use of colonnade (series of columns) in its façade and the use of rustic and heavy materials and colors on the first floor are characteristics of this type of architecture. All the work of lumber and joinery was done by the acclaimed Lyceum of Arts and Crafts of São Paulo. It was designed by the architect William Proctor Preston to be headquarters of the Canadian São Paulo Tramway, Light and Power Company – one of the most influential companies in the urban development of São Paulo, which worked on the generation and distribution of electric power, and public transportation by tramways.
